Description
What is Viagra?
VIAGRA (Sildenafil) is mainly used to treat erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction or ED is when a male cannot maintain a hardened or erect penis. Viagra acts as a vasodilator by raising Nitric Oxide content in the blood, which increases blood flow in the veins of the penis helping men with ED develop an erection. Sildenafil was originally meant to lower blood pressure and treat chest pain. Instead of relieving chest discomfort, it gave the participants nice and long lasting erections. Sildenafil is sold under the brand name of the ever popular Viagra, but it has also sold under the name Revatio. Sildenafil under the brand name Revatio is used to make it easier for people with pulmonary arterial hypertension or PAH to exercise. Pulmonary arterial hypertension is when the blood vessels going to your lungs are too stiff, this makes it hard for blood to go through causing some strain on your heart and also means there’s less blood going to your lungs. This is why people with PAH experienced shortness of breath tiredness or dizziness a lot. Sildenafil achieves both of these by relaxing your blood vessels, allowing more blood to go through these designated areas.
There is a little protein in our body called phosphodiesterase-5. This thing eats up and breaks down another thing called cGMP. They are important in making your blood vessels wider, a much needed factor in maintaining and achieving a good erection. Sildenafil blocks these little cGMPs for meeting with the phosphodiesterase-5, preventing them from being eaten and broken down. So in the end we get more cGMPs, and higher amount of cGMPs in the muscles bring blood to the penis and to the lungs, which means they are more relaxed and open and more blood is able to go to those areas. This is why it is called a phosphodiesterase inhibitor.
Viagra Benefits
The main benefit of Viagra is that it allows men to have intercourse or masturbate and have better sex health in general. On the other hand, the improved blood flow to the lungs also allows people with pulmonary arterial hypertension to be able to exercise and participate more in vigorous activities.
Viagra Side Effects
There have been some studies linking vision problems to Sildenafil. If you are experiencing worsening vision while on Sildenafil, you have to talk to your doctor. Do not use Sildenafil with Nitroglycerin. This is an actual medication used to relieve chest pain. Taking these together can dangerously decrease your blood pressure. Erections lasting more than four hours are no good, especially when they are not wanted. It is time to see your doctor if you get one of these issues.
There are many special considerations to keep in mind when taking Sildenafil. Do not switch Revatio for Viagra because there are no dose equivalents.
Headaches: Some men have reported agonizing headaches (immediate or prolonged) due to Viagra use, followed by flushing and nasal congestions. Cardiac Damage: In some cases, Viagra can increase the heart rate, resulting in permanent heart damage. Heart Attack: ED drugs dilate blood vessels, dropping blood pressure. But if you have an underlying heart condition, your blood pressure can drop so low that you end up with a stroke or heart attack. Developing ED if you don’t already have it: Perhaps, the most certain thing that can happen to you is developing ED, even if you don’t have it already. Drug dependence is inevitable with all drugs, and Viagra is no exception.
Viagra for Bodybuilding
Because of the increased blood flow, bodybuilders use Viagra as a means to get better pumps during their workouts. Although it makes sense theoretically as increased blood ‘might’ enhance your pump during workouts, there are no ‘bodybuilding specific’ studies on this.
Suggested Dose and Administration
The most common dose of Viagra is 50 milligrams but depending on your tolerance it should be decreased to 25 milligrams or increased all the way up to 100 milligrams. The best time to take Viagra is at least 1 hour before any sexual activity. Revatio on the other hand is more commonly given in 20 milligrams taking 3 times a day.
