What is ADEX?
Dynamic Pharmaceuticals ADEX (Anastrozole) is a powerful anti-estrogen medication that is best known by the popular trade name Arimidex. Arimidex first hit the market in 1995 in an effort to treat breast cancer in postmenopausal women shortly after many performance-enhancing athletes would find this compound to be extremely useful for combating the estrogenic side-effects of anabolic steroids. Officially classified as a non-steroidal aromatase inhibitor, Arimidex has rapidly become one of the more prominent anti-estrogen medication is among anabolic steroid users.

ADEX Benefits
Adex functions by inhibiting the Aromatase enzyme. Blocking this enzyme reduces the body’s ability to create estrogen and it will further reduce the body’s total estrogen levels. This is important to the breast cancer patient as breast cancer feeds and thrives off of estrogen. By inhibiting estrogen production and reducing total levels this will promote a regression of the cancer. For decades the selective estrogen receptor modulator or CERM Tamoxifen Citrate was used for this purpose, better known as Nolvadex. However, Nolvadex merely binds at the receptor preventing estrogen from binding. It does not inhibit or reduce estrogen.

The effects of Adex are valuable to the performance enhancing athlete largely for the same reasons it is for the breast cancer patient; inhibition and reduction of estrogen. Many anabolic steroids particularly testosterone and testosterone base have the ability to aromatize. The aromatization process refers to the conversion of testosterone to estrogen and as estrogen levels rise this can promote gynecomastia and excess water retention. The excess water retention can also promote high blood pressure if it becomes severe. Supplementing with Adex the individual protects himself from such conditions as the needed estrogen to promote them is not present.

When supplementing with anabolic steroids, Adex is not always needed. For example, most dihydrotestosterone or DHT based steroids will not promote estrogenic effects. Further most 19-norsteroids will only aromatize slightly and in some cases not at all. High dose and true performance cycles will often need an aromatase inhibitor but in some cases CERMS, a solid diet, moderate doses and stacks could be enough to stave off any adverse effects however much of this will be based on individual response and there is no cut and dry answer for every man.

ADEX Side Effects
The side effects of Adex can cover a wide breadth of issues. Those who are using Adex without the use of anabolic steroids will often report weakness and fatigue. Some performance athletes report the same when used during the hard cutting cycle. Other common side effects include headache, hot flashes, high blood pressure, joint pain and in some cases depression. Issues surrounding nausea and vomiting can also be a concern. Some studies have also shown the use of Adex may decrease bone mineral content making the individual more susceptible to osteoporosis. As with many medications these side effects of Adex will be strongly based on individual response. Many will be able to use this room as its inhibitor without such effects occurring but some will not.

For the performance-enhancing athlete the largest and often more concern surrounds cholesterol. estrogen plays an important role on our cholesterol management and severe reductions may promote improper levels. Further, data has shown that when aromatizing steroids like testosterone are used in conjunction with aromatase inhibitors this can increase the negative effects significantly. This will primarily hold true regarding HDL cholesterol for this reason if a cycle can be completely without the use of an Aromatase inhibitor it will always be the best option if you were concerned with your cardiovascular health however the majority of performance-enhancing athletes will need some type of aromatase inhibitor an important note Adex should not be used by women who are pregnant as it will damage the fetus.

Suggested Dose and Administration
For the purpose of treating breast cancer in postmenopausal women Adex is prescribed at 1mg per day until the cancer is no longer progressing this is a very effective dose as it will reduce estrogen by more than 80%. For the performance-enhancing athlete Adex doses can vary quite a bit. Most commonly, the aromatase inhibitor is administered on every other day basis at a dose of 0.5mg every other day. Some may find half that amount to work while others will need a full 1mg every other day to control estrogenic effects. This can be especially true in high dose cycles with large amounts of aromatase activity.

Very few men will need more than one milligram every other day we can make an exception some will find a daily 1 milligram dose to be useful at the end of a cutting cycle such as one implemented by a competitive bodybuilder this will ensure a tighter and drier look. Such you should be limited to 2 to 4 weeks as for standard Adex cycles you should continue the full length of the anabolic steroid cycle.
